The SEC revealed today that it charged VMWare with fraud . . . and then settled for next to nothing
The Securities and Exchange Commission today said it has charged the cloud computing giant VMware for “misleading investors about its order backlog management practices, which enabled the Palo Alto, Ca.-based technology company to push revenue into future quarters by delaying product deliveries to customers, concealing the company’s slowing performance relative to its projections.” An investigation by the agency found that, “beginning in fiscal year 2019, VMware began delaying the delivery of license keys on some sales orders until just after quarter-end so that it could recognize revenue from the corresponding license sales in the following quarter.” According to the SEC, VMWare fudged the numbers, by a lot, during the aforementioned time period.

“Super bearish” fund managers’ allocation to global stocks at all-time low – BofA survey
Fund managers are “super bearish” with average allocations to cash at the highest since 2001 and allocation to global stocks at an all-time low, according to Bank of America’s (BofA) monthly survey of global fund managers for September. BofA, which polled 212 investors overseeing $616 billion in assets from Sept. 2-8, said 72% of those surveyed said they expected a weaker economy next year, and the most crowded trade was long U.S. dollar.

Sightseeing train in Japan is fueled by used cooking oil, discarded ramen soup lard
A Japanese company started using biodiesel fuel created from used tempura cooking oil and discarded lard from ramen soup to power its open-air sightseeing train last month. Takachiho Amaterasu Railway Co., a train company operating in Takachiho, a town in Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan started using the fuel developed by transportation company Nishida Shoun on Aug. 1. The railway conducted its test on the fuel for its open-air sightseeing train in mid-June using a ratio of 9:1 used tempura oil and lard extracted from ramen broth and refined with chemicals.
